Drug-drug interactions are critical to the management of safe and effective pharmaceutical treatments. Thus, it is important to better understand the biological functions and activities of P450 enzymes not only to maximize their clinical significance but also to develop broader application in other fields, such as biofuel. There has been significant investment in computational and theoretical studies of P450 enzymes; however, there remains a need for further dynamical calculations to better explore the involvement of the enzyme active site in competing pathways leading to various products. This project aims to determine the role of P450 enzyme in alcohol and alkene formations, compare and contrast heme and non-heme Fe-containing active sites, and model the effect of enzyme environment, using quantum mechanical calculations and inherent dynamics via quasi-classical simulation. Employment of third country nationals (TCNs) through temporary work agencies (TWAs) became a common solution to allow for the smooth supply of workers both in core EU member states, and in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, which is in itself effected by considerable emigration and labour mobility. RightsLab will look into the employment conditions of transnational workers employed through TWAs and ask: how can we develop mechanisms of effective transnational labour rights protection for agency workers? It will provide empirically grounded research into the employment of Ukrainian workers in two CEE countries – Poland and Hungary plus Italy. Both Poland and Hungary, recently has become a laboratory for TWA forms of flexible employment, and Ukrainians represent a large segment of the TCN workers there. Via this ‘digital’ call for help, she successfully escaped violence. The internationally recognized #metoo movement became active on social media enabling women victims of gender-based violence (GBV) to seek justice and healing. While these examples show how digital technologies can allow individuals to exercise their agency and communicate their voices against violence, the existing academic studies in the field of GBV have yet to discuss the empowering outcomes of digital technology use for and by victims/survivors.  By addressing this gap, SaRe-DiGT aims to uncover the potentialities of digital technologies in enhancing victims'/survivors’ physical and emotional safety against violence. I particularly focus on the patterns and practices of digital technology use by immigrant women who have experiences of GBV. Considering the numerous barriers that immigrant women face while seeking safety from violence, SaRe-DiGT stresses on the instrumental use of digital technologies as a practical resource for information, communication, and mobilization to overcome violence. The project includes three phases: i) participatory focus groups, to identify and examine the opportunities enabled by digital technology use in women’s lives to navigate their ways towards safety and resilience from violence; ii) digital storytelling workshops, to co-develop resilience-promoting practices enabled by the creative use of digital technologies; and iii) website designing workshops, to co-design an online initiative as a practical digital resource to assist immigrant women in their efforts to reach safety and build resilience. competitiveness of the manufacturing sector and innovations in high-tech sectors. To loosen the growth restrictions imposed by the inflexible supply from primary mining, alternative sources for these metals must be explored. At the same time a wealth of metals is entrapped within the vast amounts of secondary resources still being landfilled or used in applications where their intrinsic value is not fully utilized. To unlock the potential of these resources, a radically new approach to metal recovery must be deployed. Crucial factor within this new value chain is the zero-waste approach, which captures not only the contained metals but also valorises the residual matrix (often >95% of the bulk material). Such an approach requires the development of innovative, highly selective metal recovery technologies that fully capture the metal-value without impairing the properties of the residual matrix material for valorisation. \nCHROMIC aims to develop such new recovery processes for critical (Cr, Nb) and economically valuable (Mo, V) by-product metals from secondary resources, based on the smart integration of enhanced pre-treatment, selective alkaline leaching and highly selective metal recovery across the value chain. An overarching assessment of the related economic, environmental and health and safety aspects will be carried out in an iterative way to ensure that the developed technologies meet the requirements of the circular economy whilst being in line with current market demand. The technology will be developed for two models streams (stainless steel slags and ferrochrome slags) with the potential of replication to numerous industrial residues across Europe. Involvement of society from early on will smooth the path towards implementation, so that the CHROMIC processes can contribute to securing Europe’s supply of critical raw efficiency and robustness to noisy or unreliable sensory signals, such as those inherent in vision. However, a significant roadblock to realizing the full potential of this emerging brain-inspired technology is the current practical need to use inefficient and slow (high latency) legacy von Neumann architectures to convert the input data that needs to be processed, and supply it to the neuromorphic system for further processing. \nA promising solution to this problem is the recent availability of state-of-the-art neuromorphic sensors, which produce asynchronous event-based output in a form for neuromorphic processing. In parallel, we have developed state-of-the-art neuromorphic processors in the ERC NeuroP project, opening the path to creating fully neuromorphic combined sensing and processing systems.\nHere we will demonstrate the potential of this technology by building a proof of concept Neuromorphic Sensory Processor (NSP), which will directly interface the neuromorphic Dynamic Vision Sensor with one of the neuromorphic processor devices developed in the ERC NeuroP project. This will represent the first ever general-purpose, end-to-end, fully neuromorphic vision sensing and processing system available for general usage.\nIn this project we will build a technology demonstrator and a detailed commercial business case for this technology, and demonstrate both its technological and commercial advantages. European Fellowships"}}],"summary":"Prolines are unique amongst aminoacids given that they naturally exist in two isomeric states: CIS and TRANS. The transition between these states is slow but can be catalyzed by the activity of proline isomerases such as PIN1. Recent in vitro work suggests that PIN1 can alter the phosphorylation dynamics of the C-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase II (Pol II) by inhibiting phosphatase recognition. Given Pol II is solely responsible for transcribing all protein-coding genes and that CTD phosphorylation dictates the timing of RNA co-transcriptional processes, these observations suggest a crucial role for CTD proline isomerization in gene expression. Importantly, mutations in PIN1 are associated with cancer progression but a direct role for proline isomerization has remained understudied given the technical limitations imposed by its complex enzymology, such as the inability of differentiating CIS and TRANS isomers using Mass Spectrometry. In this project, I aim to functionally dissect the role of proline isomerization during Pol II transcription using rigorous biochemical, cellular and genomic techniques. Specifically, I will exploit new technological advances in peptide synthesis to permanently “lock” prolines in CIS or TRANS and identify novel isomer-specific interacting factors. I will systematically examine the consequences of CTD proline mutations and of rapid depletion of PIN1 in human cells, focusing on CTD-dependent co-transcriptional RNA processes such as splicing and poly-A–dependent 3’ termination. At the basic research level, my results will provide unprecedented resolution to the dynamics of Pol II phosphorylation, which underlies regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms. Advances in key technologies capturing this shape-function relationship in vitro can bring the long-sought goal of real tissue engineering within reach. \n\nIn VOLUME-BIO I will develop a novel multi-material volumetric bioprinting technology for the precise generation of engineered tissues and organoids exhibiting physiological functions. Inspired by optical tomography, cell-laden hydrogels are sculpted into tissue analogues within seconds, upon exposure to bio-friendly 3D visible light fields. Tuneable light patterns control the local distribution of cells and, through orthogonal photo-chemical reactions, of key factors that guide stem cell fate, namely stiffness of the extracellular matrix and morphogenetic biochemical cues. The unprecedented ability to tune independently such parameters will also permit to build 3D platforms to study how architectural complexity impacts organoid maturation. This will provide a new tool to address the so far unanswered question of how much an engineered tissue needs to mimic Nature’s template to achieve physiological functionality. \n\nBringing together my expertise in engineering, bioprinting, materials design and stem cell biology, I will first test the potential and versatility of this novel volumetric technology by building from anatomical patient-specific images functional and centimetre-scale vascularized bone and bone marrow organoid supporting physiological-like Fellowships"}}],"summary":"ACCESS aims to establish a new technique to perform precision measurements of forbidden beta-decays, whose spectral shape is a crucial benchmark for Nuclear Physics calculations and plays a pivotal role in Astroparticle Physics experiments. When fundamental conservation laws strongly suppress a beta decay, it features a high transferred momentum, as in the case of neutrinoless double-beta decay (NLDBD).  Relying on this similarity, ACCESS will provide groundbreaking insights to evaluate Nuclear Matrix Elements for NLDBD. ACCESS will operate a pilot array of four tellurium dioxide crystals as cryogenic calorimeters. Three of them will be doped with different beta emitters, while the last natural one will be used for effective background subtraction. My experience with cryogenic calorimeters based on semiconductor sensors (i.e. NTD) will be a solid basement for the project, but an essential piece of the puzzle is still missing. ACCESS requires high statistical measurements in an ultra-clean underground cryostat, available for limited time slots. A fast detector is mandatory to collect the required number of signals, keeping the background low, and avoiding the pileup due to the high counting rate. To fulfill this requirement, I will complete my training during the first two years of the action at Queen’s University. Here I will learn to build and operate bolometers based on superconductive sensors (i.e. TES), among the faster sensors used in Astroparticle Physics. I will transfer my NTD-oriented expertise to the local group, and together we will integrate these two sensors for a novel application. In the last year, I will move to GSSI, a research center of excellence recently established in Italy. Here I will perform the final measurements at LNGS (Gran Sasso National Laboratory), a world-leading underground research infrastructure of INFN.
